My new found problem...
Jul. 28th, 2008 01:20 amI have a question for people on my pathetically small f-list, but...for those of you have written your own fiction, has it affected how you read other fanfiction? I used to read lots of fiction....I mean LOTS! Now...since I've written my own, I can't seem to look past the words and understand the 'story' that is actually being written. In order to actually read it and get into it, I have to concentrate hard. I am now extremely picky when it comes to what I read (I used to not be this way). I have to be intersested in the fandom and pairing that person is writing, then...if the writing is horrible I just stop reading it right then.
Is that awful of me?
Don't get me wrong...I try new things...take chances on new pairing I haven't read before. And I usually get addicted to them...lol.
I'm awful at grammar, but I find myself looking at how other authors write their fanfiction. I don't know when I became so...cocky (hehe) about fanfiction....because I am clearly no expert. Hell...I just wrote my first stories in the past two weeks. But I've read them for a long time and to waste time reading a poorly written story is pointless when there are Brilliant writers out there; who take the fucking time to write a fic worth reading.
Anyway...back to my main point....you don't have to answer this bullshit.
If you have written a fic, has it changed the way you read other fanfiction?

Date: 2008-10-14 10:56 am (UTC)I also suck at grammar etc, but I still look for mistakes in other fics. I used to read more stories, but now I'm getting more picky, just like you. I sometimes give up on reading if I don't like the writing style. Something I didn't usually do a year or two ago. But it's nothing to be worried about... it's just because your own writing evolves and you compare other stories with your own ones..
