Ben Shamback

Ben Shamback
Most of the paintings that are on the first page of the gallery were painted this past fall and winter. You can also see his picture under the biography section (isn't he adorable ^^).
What I love most is the exposed copper and steel that he leaves. I'm very happy with seeing it and love seeing unframed work becuase really, what's the point of painting on copper and steel and then covering it up. That's the point!
He's the third painting professor that I've had and he's by far my favorite. My previous instructors have been helpful but I feel much more relaxed and well...less stressed around him. My first professor was the department head and he always wore a suit underneath his paint apron, plus he was extremely handsome. That was my first painting class so I was already nervous and he unknowingly made it worse for me. Oh well. The next professor I had was a completel looney. She is a renouned portrait painter and I felt like I learned nothing, I just painting a few paintings and then moved on. I have her again for figure drawing this semester and I think the same thing's going to happen in that class - but I'm in figure 3 so I'm pretty well versed on that subject.
So Ben is a blessed relief and a nice middle ground between my previous instructors - a fountain of knowledge and an easygoing guy.
